Top 5 European Cathedrals for Kids

5.) Ulm Munster: Tallest church in Christendom, it dominates the lovely town of Ulm in a spectacular fashion. You can climb to the top, all 768 steps (by comparison, climbing up Vulcan is a paltry 160 steps).

4.) Chartes Cathedral: because you have to let them walk the labyrinth. Quietly, please, and walk, don’t run. Good luck with that.

3.) St. Peters, Vatican. You don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate it. If you told your kids “this was built by giants” they’d believe you.

2.) Sagrada Familia, Barcelona. The interior is like an elfin forest – all light and columns. Spent time finding strange people and animals in the rear wall.

1.) Notre Dame, Paris. If only for the Hunchback story – but it also happens to be awe-inspiring.
